Yinka Quadri On Why He, Other Nollywood Actors Are Backing Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid

Veteran Yoruba actor Yinka Quadri has opened up about why he and some members of the Nigerian entertainment industry are supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on the African A-List programme, the actor explained that their support goes beyond personal interests, pointing to what he described as Tinubu’s longstanding financial support for entertainers dating back to his time as governor of Lagos State.

According to Quadri, many people misunderstand the reason behind the actors’ support for the president.

“It is not about what we want to eat. He has been taking care of those of us in the industry since he was the governor of Lagos,” he said.

The veteran actor recalled how Tinubu allegedly stepped in to pay the medical bills of late Nollywood actor Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, when he was battling health challenges.

Quadri also shared details of how the president reportedly provided $25,000 to help bring the remains of actress Moji Olaiya back to Nigeria following her death in Canada in 2017.

He explained that he, actress Fathia Balogun, filmmaker Yomi Fabiyi and others had visited Tinubu’s residence in Bourdillon, Lagos, to seek financial assistance for the repatriation.

“When Moji Olaiya died, we were trying to bring her back from abroad. We went to Bourdillon to seek financial support. He asked us for the cost and paid it. It was a total of $25,000,” Quadri recounted.

Beyond the assistance he said Tinubu had offered members of the entertainment industry, Quadri also praised infrastructure projects in the South-West, particularly the Papalanto-Sagamu road and the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode route.

While acknowledging that more work still needs to be done, the actor said he appreciated the administration’s efforts in that regard.
