Wicknell Chivayo And Lucy Muteke’s Burial Set For Thursday At Glen Forest, Public Allowed

The public will be allowed to attend the burial of businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke, after the family confirmed that the ceremony will not be a private affair.

The couple is expected to be laid to rest at Glen Forest Cemetery in Harare on Thursday, October 8, following their deaths in a helicopter crash in Marondera.

Family Opens Burial To Public

Speaking to ZBC, Chivayo family spokesperson Herbert Chivayo said members of the public are welcome to attend the burial as the family prepares to bid farewell to the couple.

The decision means friends, supporters and members of the public who wish to pay their final respects will be able to attend the ceremony at Glen Forest Cemetery.

President Honours Wicknell Chivayo

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has accorded Chivayo Provincial Hero Status following his death, describing the businessman as a personal friend and his death as a profound national loss.

Speaking during his eulogy, Mnangagwa said he was deeply saddened by Chivayo’s death and reflected on their personal relationship.

“This is God’s doing and His will. I am hurt. I am the President, but he was my friend,” he said.

The President said the circumstances surrounding Chivayo’s death had to be accepted as part of God’s will, noting that every person has a designated time on earth.

“When we were all born, God gave us time. We all have our designated time to live, and once that time is up, no one can refuse that,” he said.

Remembered For His Ambition

Mnangagwa also paid tribute to Chivayo’s ambitions, saying his vision extended beyond his immediate family to Zimbabwe and the wider African continent.

“Wicknell was a man of grand vision, not just for his family, but for Zimbabwe and the wider African continent,” he said.
