Bruno Fernandes’ 2026-27 campaign so far has already put into full perspective the ups and downs of his 2025-26 Premier League season at Manchester United.
The 31-year-old Manchester United captain has started and played the full 90 minutes of the Red Devils’ opening Premier League matches of the new campaign.
Bruno Fernandes struggled to make an impact during the visit to the MKM Stadium and Man Utd lost 2-0 to Hull City in their first Premier League match of the season.
However, the Red Devils midfielder was the man of the hour on Sunday evening after his stunning hat-trick fired United to a 5-2 win over Ipswich Town.
Bruno Fernandes was forced to play deep within the two-man midfield pivot of Ruben Amorim’s contentious tactical system for Manchester United last season.
The ex-Sporting CP midfielder’s attacking influence waned and Fernandes netted four times in the Premier League before Ruben Amorim was sacked at United.
To put it into perspective: from the start of August 2025 up to Amorim’s departure in January 2026, Fernandes scored on his four occasions across 184 days in total.

Fernandes’ stunning run of form in the previous season put the spotlight on him breaking the Premier League assist record in a single campaign.
However, there was much left to be desired by his reduced goalscoring returns for United — much of which was to blame on Amorim’s mishandling of him.
Fernandes’ sensational hat-trick in United’s 5-2 win over Ipswich Town has now put him only shy of what he achieved under Amorim in the final third last season.
The expectations are much higher to see Fernandes contribute to the overall goalscoring returns of the Red Devils in the 2026-27 Premier League season.
It feels that the Portugal ace is well positioned to not only better his goalscoring record under Amorim last season, but also his overall returns in the 2025-26 campaign.
