Over 130,000 Tech Jobs Have Been Cut in 2026. Here Are the Companies Behind Them

Kroger is planning to eliminate about 3,000 corporate jobs over the next three years as the US supermarket chain looks to cut costs and redirect more resources towards employees working in its stores.

The grocery shop’s planned reductions show how companies are balancing costs by reducing headcount, cutting about 37% of its 8,200 corporate employees.

In a memo to employees shared with Business Insider, CEO Greg Foran said Kroger had made progress in lowering prices, improving the customer experience and investing in technology to make employees’ jobs easier.

He said the company now needs to become leaner, make decisions faster and focus its resources on areas that benefit customers.

“Our company has more layers, more handoffs and more overhead than we need, so we are addressing this issue,” Foran wrote, indicating the need to communicate the decision it is taking to reduce job roles by 2029.

The announcement comes amid a difficult year for tech workers as more than 130,000 tech jobs have been cut in 2026 so far, with major technology companies accounting for a significant share of the losses.

Here are some of the companies behind the numbers.
