“I’m Part Of The Family”: Bobby Motaung Reveals Why He Has Not Stepped Away From Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has reaffirmed his commitment to the Soweto giants, making it clear that he has no intention of distancing himself from the club despite changes in how he contributes to its leadership.

Motaung, who has been associated with Amakhosi for many years, says the club’s history, family heritage and identity remain important reasons for his continued involvement. Although he describes his current role as more supportive of the leadership team, he insists that certain responsibilities cannot simply be abandoned.

“There’s certain things we can’t step aside from, the Chiefs legacy, the chairman’s legacy. I’m part of the family. I’m part of the organisation,” Motaung said.

His remarks provide insight into his continued presence at a club where leadership responsibilities, succession and the direction of the football department remain subjects of interest among supporters.

Bobby Motaung Reflects on His Role at Chiefs

Over the years, Bobby Motaung has become a familiar figure in South African football administration through his longstanding association with Kaizer Chiefs.

As the club’s football manager, he has been involved in various aspects of its football operations, including squad planning and the broader management structure. His position has also attracted public scrutiny whenever the club faces questions about its performances, player recruitment or coaching appointments.

However, his latest comments suggest that his approach to the role has evolved. Rather than insisting on controlling every decision, Motaung appears to be emphasising his willingness to support the leadership team while continuing to offer his experience and guidance.

This approach comes as Chiefs face the ongoing challenge of building a more competitive team and establishing structures capable of delivering sustained success. Modern football increasingly demands effective long-term planning, clearly defined responsibilities and sound management decisions.

For Motaung, however, taking a more supportive role does not mean abandoning the club or the responsibilities associated with its history.

The Motaung Family’s Lasting Connection to Amakhosi

Kaizer Chiefs was founded in 1970 by Dr Kaizer Motaung, who went on to build the club into one of South Africa’s most recognised and widely supported football institutions.

Over the decades, Amakhosi has developed a strong identity shaped by its history, loyal supporters and place in South African football. For the Motaung family, the club represents a longstanding legacy and a responsibility to preserve the institution for future generations.

Bobby’s remarks reflect the personal significance of that connection. By describing himself as part of both the family and the organisation, he makes it clear that his relationship with Chiefs goes beyond holding an official position.

Nevertheless, supporters will continue to measure the club’s leadership by its ability to assemble a competitive squad, recruit effectively and challenge for major honours.

What Bobby Motaung’s Comments Mean for Chiefs

The discussion surrounding Bobby Motaung’s position is not simply about whether he remains involved with Kaizer Chiefs, but also about how his experience and influence fit into the club’s future plans.

His latest remarks indicate that he remains committed to the Amakhosi institution, even if the way he contributes to its leadership has changed.

As Chiefs continue working towards restoring their position among South Africa’s leading clubs, questions about management, accountability and long-term planning are likely to remain important.

For now, Motaung’s message is clear: his responsibilities may evolve, but he believes the Chiefs legacy is something he cannot simply walk away from.
