Eric Tinkler: Asante Kotoko resignation was not linked to poor results

Former Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler says his decision to resign from the club was unrelated to the team's recent performances or results.
The Ghana Premier League club confirmed on Monday that it had mutually agreed with the South African coach to terminate his contract.
Tinkler revealed that he had already decided to leave the club before Kotoko's 2-0 defeat by Aduana FC on Sunday.
Speaking to the club's media team after the match, the 54-year-old insisted that the result had no bearing on his decision.
I have handed in my resignation butit has nothing to do with performance, Tinkler said.
It had nothing to do with the result [against Aduana Stars]. This was a decision I had already made last week. This is the world of football.
Tinkler explained that an opportunity to return to South Africa was the main factor behind his decision to leave Kotoko.
I was given a good offer to go back to a club in South Africa, and that is the main reason why Ive made the decision that I have, he added.
Tinkler is reportedly set to take charge of South African Premier Soccer League side Durban City following his departure from Kotoko.
His exit comes after a brief spell in charge of the Porcupine Warriors, during which he guided them to victory in the Democracy Cup.
Kotoko defeated rivals Hearts of Oak to win the competition under Tinkler.
The South African coach's departure comes early in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign, with Kotoko now expected to begin the search for a new head coach.
