Zimbabwe PSL Nears 500 Goals as Golden Boot Race Tightens

The Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League has produced 476 goals after 28 rounds, leaving just 24 more before the season reaches 500. Washington Navaya has supplied 15 of them and currently holds a three-goal lead in the Golden Boot race. The 476-goal figure is broader. It includes every scorer and every completed fixture through 28 rounds.

That makes the final 24 goals needed for 500 much easier to understand than a vague claim that the league is experiencing a scoring boom. The competition is close to a visible season milestone, but without complete equivalent totals from previous campaigns, the current figure should not be treated as proof that 2026 is definitively more attacking.

The individual leaderboard is tighter than Navaya’s position might first suggest.

Kawondera remains within three goals. Agyemang and Billiat are four behind the leader. A short scoring run could therefore alter the order before the season ends, even though Navaya currently has the clearest advantage.

His 15 goals also account for only a small fraction of the league’s 476. That matters because the approach to 500 is a competition-wide development, not something being driven by one striker alone.

Twenty Goals Is Now Close Enough to Matter

Navaya needs five goals to reach 20 and seven to equal Maroto’s 22-goal season from 2010.

Neither figure should be treated as a forecast. Six remaining league matches for Hardrock provide opportunity, not a guaranteed scoring rate.

The more immediate benchmark is 17. Two additional goals would match the total with which Navaya won last season’s Golden Boot.

Meanwhile, the league itself has a much shorter numerical journey to its next milestone. Another 24 goals across all fixtures would move the competition from 476 to 500.

Those two countdowns will not necessarily move together. Hardrock have already shown why: four team goals can arrive without the leading scorer contributing one.
