Kofi Bentil has not seen this video of Osafo Maafo praising Bawumia for his EMT role under NPP

In an Official Facebook Post by Johnnie Hughes on 25 October 2026, the broadcaster and social commentator challenged Kofi Bentil’s attempt to downplay Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s role in Ghana’s economic management. The post, captioned “Mr. Kofi Bentil has not seen this video of Mr. Yaw Osafo Maafo heaping praises on Dr. Bawumia for his role in the Economic Management Team (EMT) under NPP”, was both assertive and corrective, dramatizing the tension between political narratives and documented testimony.

Hughes referenced a video in which Yaw Osafo Maafo — former Finance Minister, Senior Minister, Senior Presidential Advisor on the Economy, and a key member of the EMT — openly praised Bawumia’s leadership. According to Maafo, “we are where we are because of Dr. Bawumia.” Hughes argued that this acknowledgment contradicts Bentil’s effort to heap credit solely on Ken Ofori‑Atta, while stripping Bawumia of his credentials and achievements.

His tone was sharp yet evidence‑driven. By invoking Osafo Maafo’s stature and credibility, Hughes dramatized the broader lesson that political spin cannot erase documented recognition. He mocked Bentil’s narrative with the metaphor “#BrandNewSecondHand”, likening it to repackaging old realities as fresh truths. He added that the NPP itself once labeled such contradictions as “#BankyeDada.”

This commentary reflects the theme of political narratives versus historical record. Hughes’s rebuttal underscores the importance of respecting documented contributions. By highlighting Osafo Maafo’s praise, he dramatized the broader lesson that leadership roles cannot be rewritten to fit partisan agendas.

At a deeper level, the post highlights the intersection of political communication, credibility, and institutional memory. Hughes’s frustration dramatizes how selective storytelling undermines trust. His words serve as a reminder that political discourse must honor facts, not distort them for convenience.

Observers note that this debate resonates with wider concerns about the rewriting of political legacies in Ghana. Citizens increasingly demand clarity on who truly shaped policy outcomes. Hughes’s post channels this expectation, urging commentators to respect the record and avoid erasing contributions for partisan gain.

In conclusion, Johnnie Hughes’s post — “Mr. Kofi Bentil has not seen this video of Mr. Yaw Osafo Maafo heaping praises on Dr. Bawumia for his role in the Economic Management Team (EMT) under NPP” — is both a rebuttal and a reminder. It dramatizes the clash between spin and evidence, reminding Ghanaians that credibility rests on documented truth. His words stand as a call to honor contributions fairly, without distortion.
