Man Utd have done the impossible after Martinez’s comments, nobody saw it coming

Manchester United’s loss to Atletico is no longer the biggest story around the club, and they have Lisandro Martinez to thank for the same.
In the wake of a limp 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid, Lisandro Martinez poured his heart out in a scathing rant targeting the upper management of the club.
He took responsibility for underperforming, but put the lens squarely on Jason Wilcox, challenging them for a lack of ambition in the market.
Just like that, this club has done the impossible. It is something nobody would have seen coming.
Lisandro Martinez’s comments make Ruben Amorim a prophet
Managers’ comments ageing well after leaving Old Trafford is a narrative all too familiar for Man Utd fans, but at least said managers achieved some success at the club.
Jose Mourinho’s “football heritage” rant is infamous, but he could point to multiple trophies to back up his claim, while Louis van Gaal has an FA Cup to back his “commercial club” jibe.
Ruben Amorim, in contrast, is the worst manager in the Premier League history of the club, so he didn’t have a leg to stand on when he called out Ineos for their incompetence on his way out of the club.
Until now, that is.
With Martinez singing from the same hymn sheet as Amorim after the Atletico loss, United have managed to make even Amorim look like a prophet, a feat that was thought impossible this time last year.
Even a manager who achieved nothing at this club now looks like a martyr who was failed by people around him, which is something that nobody saw coming.
Leave aside the fact that Amorim was too stubborn in his methods to ever be successful at this club. The fact is that his comments have aged like fine wine.
They were an act of petulance because he hadn’t achieved anything at the time to even warrant that kind of unequivocal backing. However, Martinez is a fan favourite, and his comments hold weight.
Man Utd have turned one of the worst managers in their history into a prophet.
Jason Wilcox and Ineos must answer
It was easy to get rid of Amorim the moment he went against the board, but it’s not so easy to rip up the contract of a player, especially when his message resonates with Man Utd fans.
The only time Wilcox has fronted the press is after Amorim won back-to-back games for the first time at United, when he patted himself on the back.
He has gone missing every time there is trouble, which screams dodging accountability. No player will stand for a “leader” like that.
Martinez is just the most outspoken one, which is why there is no hiding place for Wilcox and Ineos.
Even their “best in class” defence for Omar Berrada and Wilcox falls flat on its face now that City’s charges have been well established.
Clearly, the duo can be successful only if they have a bottomless pit of cash to throw at their errors and make new decisions.
