Breaking: Two Senior NCC Members Has Announced Their Immediate Resignation, See Who They’re

Two senior members of the National Coloured Congress (NCC) have resigned from the party just days before South Africa’s municipal elections scheduled for Wednesday, 4 November 2026.

Among those who have reportedly stepped down is the party’s mayoral candidate in the Saldanha Bay Municipality in the Western Cape. Their departures come at a critical moment for the NCC, which is preparing to contest the upcoming local government elections.

The resignations have drawn attention because of their timing, with political parties across the country making final preparations for election day, including mobilising supporters, engaging voters and campaigning for council representation.

The departure of two senior party figures could raise questions about the NCC’s internal stability and its ability to maintain organisational unity during the final stages of the election campaign. However, the reasons behind the resignations have not yet been established.

The resignation of the Saldanha Bay mayoral candidate is particularly notable because mayoral candidates are often central to their parties’ local election campaigns. They are expected to communicate party policies, present local development priorities and persuade residents to support their political organisations.

Saldanha Bay is among the municipalities in the Western Cape where several political parties are competing for voters’ support. The NCC is one of the parties contesting the municipality, alongside established political organisations and smaller local formations.

The loss of a mayoral candidate so close to election day could also create uncertainty regarding the party’s local campaign arrangements, particularly if the resignation affects its existing electoral structures or candidate deployment.

Meanwhile, the resignation of another senior member adds to the significance of the development, as both departures involve individuals who held senior positions within the organisation.

It remains unclear whether the two former members intend to join another political party, become independent political participants or withdraw from active politics altogether. There has also been no confirmed explanation establishing whether their decisions were connected or resulted from separate circumstances.

The NCC has not been quoted in the information currently available regarding the circumstances surrounding the resignations.

The development comes as political parties face the final stretch of campaigning ahead of Wednesday’s municipal elections, when registered voters will elect representatives responsible for overseeing local government affairs and service delivery.

For the NCC, the immediate challenge will be managing the departures and communicating its position to supporters, particularly in Saldanha Bay, where the resignation of its mayoral candidate could attract questions from voters.

Whether the resignations will have any measurable effect on the party’s electoral performance remains to be seen. What is clear, however, is that the NCC has lost two senior members at a particularly important moment in the municipal election calendar.

The identities of the two departing members, their reasons for resigning and the NCC’s official response still require confirmation.
