Pi Network price hovered near $0.0819 on Monday, ahead of this week’s scheduled Protocol 28 Mainnet upgrade.

Bitcoin price trades around $83,400, while Ethereum holds near $2,556 and XRP fluctuates around $1.40.

The crypto market is up 0.85% to $2.83T in 24h. Attention now turns to the upgrade, with traders watching whether renewed market momentum can push PI decisively above $0.10.

Pi Network has moved its Testnet to Protocol 28 after completing the Protocol 27 upgrade on Mainnet. The Pi Core Team confirmed the transition as part of its continuing protocol updates throughout 2026.

All node operators must install the required software upgrade by October 13, 2026, the team said. Mainnet activation is scheduled for October 16, giving operators three days between the deadline and the network transition. If the deadline is missed, old nodes may not be able to communicate with the upgraded network.

Following the successful completion of the Protocol 27 upgrade on Pi Mainnet, Pi Testnet has upgraded to Protocol 28.

Protocol 28 improves how the network handles delays in transaction data and enables developers to upgrade groups of smart contracts at once and change stored data more safely as their applications develop.

All Node operators must upgrade their nodes to Protocol 28 by October 13, 2026, in preparation for the Mainnet Protocol 28 network upgrade on October 16, 2026.

— Pi Network (@PiCoreTeam) September 25, 2026

It will be followed by a few weeks of testnet testing and a Mainnet switch, as was the practice with the previous upgrades. This process enables changes to be assessed prior to the live network.

Regular PI holders do not need to take action for this protocol upgrade. Protocol 28 improves handling of delayed transaction data and supports coordinated upgrades across groups of smart contracts. It also gives developers safer methods for changing stored application data as their products evolve.

On October 8, Pi Network outlined its approach to stablecoins and explained its partnership with Open Standard. The company powers Open USD, or OUSD, which Pi plans to explore for rewards and broader ecosystem utility.

The team said stablecoins could help businesses manage payments, accounting, and settlement when predictable values are necessary. PI would retain its role as the network’s primary cryptocurrency, while stablecoins would support specific uses.

Pi Network is partnering with @openstandard, the company powering Open USD (OUSD), a partner-governed stablecoin designed as open infrastructure!

Open Standard brings together more than 200+ partners across payments, finance, technology, and crypto, including Visa, Google, and Stripe.

OUSD is designed with an incentive model focused on supporting ecosystem growth, and Pi will explore rewards programs for Pioneers and broader utility across the Pi ecosystem.

Look forward to more details about this partnership.

The update provides principles for future integration, the specific details of which are still being developed throughout the ecosystem. The design of future stablecoin services will also be affected by compliance concerns.

The 4-hour chart indicates that RSI is at 40 which is less than the neutral level of 50. Indicating weak momentum in that reading; however, PI is still above the 30 level that usually signals to traders that it’s oversold.

The MACD is below its -0.001479 signal line at -0.002121, suggesting upward momentum still has yet to turn.

Pi Network price has support at $0.0807, which is still significant, with $0.0784 as a potential risk zone based on these readings.

On the upside, resistance sits near $0.0877, followed by $0.0900 and $0.0930 for the future Pi coin outlook.

A breakout above those levels would represent a $0.10 test and is needed for about a 22% gain from today’s price. A breakout could subsequently find $0.1098, and higher volumes would be required to support this move. The upgrade might be noticed, but the momentum indicators are still providing weak signs of recovery.
