THE Zimbabwe swimming team for the Africa Aquatics Zone IV Championships has received a timely boost, with EcoCash coming on board to provide the team’s kit.
The regional competition runs from September 2 to 5 in Gaborone, Botswana.
The local mobile money service provider donated kit worth US$25 000 to the travelling contingent, which includes 42 swimmers.
Speaking during the team’s send-off and kit presentation in Harare, EcoCash chief commercial officer Shepherd Hondoyemoto said: “As EcoCash, we believe in young people.
“We believe in not just putting the EcoCash logo there. For us, it runs deeper in terms of the value that we bring.
“It’s about standing behind Zimbabwean talent, especially when it comes to swimming and elite sport. I think you might have seen our participation in other sports.
“But going forward, it’s different. We are investing in swimming as well. We believe that there is extraordinary talent in Zimbabwe and that our young people deserve the chance to compete, grow and dream bigger.”
Zimbabwe Swimming held send-off ceremonies concurrently in Harare and Bulawayo on Friday evening.
