A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, has passed dead.
Orbih, the Kulukulu 1 of Ogoni Land and Oduma of Uzairue, reportedly died on Monday, 31st August 2026.
His death was confirmed in a statement issued by his family and signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, Esq., on behalf of the Orbih family.
The statement described the deceased as a beloved brother, husband, father and uncle, saying his death had left the family with “profound sadness and a heavy heart.”
The statement read, “With profound sadness and a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of the Almighty God, the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih announces the passing of our beloved brother, husband, father and uncle, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, who passed away on Monday, 31 August 2026.”
Orbih, who was born on the 27th of October, 1961, to Chief and Mrs M.C.K. Orbih of Ogbona in Etsako Central Local Government, was 64.
He began his education at the Catholic Central School, Afashio, before proceeding to Our Lady of Fatima College, Auchi.
He later attended the Advanced College, Igueben, for his General Certificate of Education, Advanced Level, before gaining admission into the University of Benin in 1981.
Orbih graduated from the University of Benin in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.
He ventured into politics and, in 1999, was the deputy governorship candidate of the All Peoples Party (APP) in Edo State.
Beyond politics, Orbih pursued further professional training, earning a Certification in International Petroleum Management from Eni, Rome, Italy, in 2006.
In 2007, he obtained a Certification in Corporate Leadership from Harvard Business School, Boston, Massachusetts.
In recognition of his contribution to humanity, Orbih was bestowed with several traditional titles.
Among the titles were The Kulukulu 1 of Ogoni Land; The Oduma of Uzairue; The Agbokhaivho the 2nd of Avianwu clan; Enakhaimhoi of Anegbete; Esama of Uromi; and Eze Oha 1 of Mburubu, among others.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs Florence Orbih; his children, Ms Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr Mildred Omonemi Orbih; his brothers and sisters; and other members of the extended family.
The family appealed to relatives, friends and well-wishers to remember them in their prayers as they come to terms with the loss.
“At this difficult time, we ask family members, friends and well-wishers to remember the entire family in their prayers as we mourn this painful loss,” the statement said.
The family said funeral arrangements would be announced later.
“May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement added.
