Government mobilises GH¢400m for book and research allowances – Education Ministry

Government has mobilised approximately GH¢400 million to facilitate the payment of book and research allowances to eligible institutions across the country, the Ministry of Education has announced.
Hashmin Mohammed, spokesperson for the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, disclosed this in a Facebook post, explaining that GH¢238 million had already been disbursed to 56 institutions under the first batch of payments.
He said approximately GH¢198 million had been earmarked for institutions under the second batch, including the University of Ghana.
According to him, the delay in payment to the University of Ghana is due to the late submission of the required documentation to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for validation.
The documents must subsequently be processed by the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) before payments can be made.
Mr Mohammed explained that the submission and validation processes were necessary to ensure that payments were properly verified and processed.
The announcement comes amid concerns over delays in the payment of book and research allowances to eligible beneficiaries.
