TOSCI proposes Tanzania’s recognition for its seed quality- testing systems

**ZURICH: **TANZANIA is seeking international recognition for its seed quality testing systems through a proposed designation of the Tanzania Official Seed Certification Institute (TOSCI) as an International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) Designated Authority.

The move is expected to strengthen confidence in the country’s seed quality control systems, improve access to international markets and enhance the competitiveness of local seed producers and traders.

According to information from TOSCI, the Institute received ISTA Secretary-General Dr Andreas Wais from the association’s headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, for discussions on the possibility of granting the Tanzanian institution the designation.

Moreover, TOSCI stated that if approved, the designation will strengthen Tanzania’s participation in international cooperation on seed testing and quality control while demonstrating the country’s technical capacity to meet ISTA standards and requirements.
