Twenty-seven people were killed and seven others injured when a Nissan Caravan NV350 kombi and a Volvo haulage truck collided head-on along the Harare-Masvingo Road near Makumimavi Primary School in Chivhu on Friday night.
The accident occurred at around 8.30 pm at the 132-kilometre peg.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident on Saturday morning, saying the foreign-registered truck was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it collided head-on with the kombi.
The kombi was carrying members of the African Apostolic Church (Mwazha) who were travelling from Dema to Mvuma for a church conference.
Nyathi said seven people were injured in the accident and were taken to hospital for treatment.
He added that the names of those who died would be released once their bodies had been identified by their next of kin.
