MSU Shooting: 4 Friends Cry For Help After Being Locked In With Dead Student
Four university students were allegedly locked inside a room with their dead friend after her suspected former husband threatened them and confiscated their phones in a horrifying shooting incident in Gweru.
The victim, Lisedi Nkomo, 25, was a Midlands State University (MSU) fourth-year student in her first semester. She was allegedly shot dead at a house in Senga KMP on Thursday, 8 October 2026.
The suspect, Godknows Muleya, a director of a Bulawayo-based security company, is being sought by police in connection with the killing, according to a report published on 10 October 2026.
MSU Shooting: Students Locked In Room With Friend’s Body
Blessing Nkomo, the caretaker of the property, said she was in town collecting a mattress when a child at the house called to check whether she was safe.
She learnt that a man wearing a hooded jacket was moving around the property, some doors were open and students had allegedly been threatened.
The man allegedly confiscated the students’ phones, forced four of them into one room and locked them inside with Lisedi’s body.
“He took their phones and ordered them to get inside. Four of the students were forced into one room, the same room where my tenant was shot. He locked them inside and threw their phones into a bathtub,” Blessing said.
Fearing for their safety, she abandoned her plans and sought police assistance.

Blessing and her husband returned to the property with police officers. However, the students were still locked inside, afraid that the armed suspect might remain nearby.
With the keys locked inside, police asked Blessing to find a crowbar to force open the door.
Recounting the moment, she said the students were crying and desperately calling for her to release them.
“My girls were crying and shouting, ‘Auntie, things are not good here! Open for us!’ They then told me that one of them was dead,” she said.
The four students were eventually freed, but their friend could not be saved.
Police Hunt Godknows Muleya After Fatal MSU Shooting
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the shooting and said a manhunt had been launched for Muleya.
He said the suspect allegedly visited Lisedi at around 3pm before a misunderstanding reportedly occurred approximately two-and-a-half hours later.
“The suspect then shot the now deceased once on the forehead using an unknown pistol,” Commissioner Nyathi said.
Police reportedly recovered a cartridge, a broken Itel mobile phone and a Samsung Galaxy A05s at the scene.
The killing has also left behind a baby estimated to be eight or nine months old, who was reportedly staying with the paternal grandmother.
Gender activist Locadia Mavhudzi condemned gender-based violence and highlighted the impact on the victim’s child, family and the four students who allegedly endured the ordeal.
“No relationship is worth a human life. Love does not justify control, threats, intimidation or violence,” she said.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
