The Western Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Iddrisu Mustapha, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Regional Vice Chairman of the party.
Alhaji Mustapha, who announced his decision in a formal declaration, said his extensive experience within the party’s organisational structure had prepared him to serve in a broader capacity and contribute to strengthening the NDC at the regional, constituency and branch levels.
According to him, his decision followed extensive consultations and was motivated by a deep sense of duty to the party and a desire to deploy his experience as Regional Youth Organizer to support the wider regional leadership.
He said the position of Regional Vice Chairman should not be treated as a ceremonial office but as a critical position that must support the Regional Chairman, strengthen coordination, promote unity and help build an effective political organisation capable of winning elections and delivering tangible benefits to the party’s rank and file. “I, therefore, offer myself as a bridge between generations, constituencies and the various wings of the party,” he said.
Alhaji Mustapha said his political journey had been characterised by service, sacrifice, loyalty and dedication, tracing his involvement in the NDC from the branch level through the youth and student structures to his current position as Regional Youth Organizer.
He had previously served as a Branch Youth Organizer and Secretary, TEIN Vice President, member of the Regional Youth Working Committees, Acting Deputy Regional Youth Organizer, Regional TEIN Coordinator and Deputy Regional Youth Organizer.
He also cited his involvement in the party during what he described as the “stormy days” following the year 2000, when he said he and other activists actively worked to sustain the NDC and its political fortunes.
He recalled his role as a serial caller and co-founder of the Still Arising Fun Club, describing these engagements as part of a political journey that had continued uninterrupted to the present day. Alhaji Mustapha said the experience had given him a clear understanding of the challenges facing the party and the importance of grassroots mobilisation, internal cohesion and collective leadership.
“I will not seek to create enemies where we can create partnership and build bridges. I will not seek to divide where we can unite,” he said.
If elected, he pledged to work closely with the Regional Chairman, Members of Parliament, Ministers of State, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, constituency executives, the youth and women’s wings, elders and other stakeholders to sustain the NDC’s electoral gains in the Western Region.
He said his leadership would be anchored on accessibility, service, empathy, patience and a supportive approach to party members. “This declaration is, therefore, not merely an expression of ambition, but a commitment to continue serving our party with integrity, dedication, and excellence,” he stated.
Alhaji Mustapha further promised to engage the various constituencies in the coming days to present his vision and solicit the support of delegates and stakeholders.
He said his overarching objective was to support the regional executive team to build a stronger, more united and election-ready NDC capable of consolidating its gains and achieving greater electoral success.
Calling on party members, delegates, elders, patrons and executives to support his bid, Alhaji Mustapha said his campaign would be guided by the principles of “service through experience, unity through leadership and victory through collective action.”
