The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kwara State, Hon. Zakari Mohammed, has identified insecurity as a major obstacle to economic growth and development in the state.
Mohammed, who spoke with newsmen in Ilorin, the state capital, lamented the rising cost of living and the difficulty many households face in meeting their basic needs.
He stressed that meaningful progress could not be achieved without a safe environment for residents, farmers and businesses.
The gubernatorial hopeful emphasised the need for community intelligence, modern technology and improved support for security agencies.
If elected as governor next year, Mohammed said he would implement a security strategy that would encourage residents to provide useful information to relevant authorities.
He also promised to strengthen the capacity of security operatives to respond effectively to emerging threats.
He added that community participation and intelligence gathering would be central to addressing the security challenges confronting different parts of the state.
Mohammed also identified agriculture as a critical sector requiring urgent attention, noting that farmers needed a secure environment and adequate government support to increase food production.
