Nankya hails team determination in victory against Zambia

Crested Cranes captain Shadia Nankya has lauded her teammates for a spirited performance against Zambia in the first leg of the second qualification round of the 2028 CAF Women’s Olympic Tournament.
Uganda came from a goal down to win 2-1 at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Thursday thanks to goals from Agnes Nabukenya and Sylvia Kabene. Prisca Chilufya had earlier given Zambia the lead.
While speaking to the media after the game, Captain Nankya indicated that it was determination that helped them overcome Zambia.
“It was a tough one, but due to the determination and the willingness to better the game every time, every minute, we managed to come from a goal down and win,” she said.
The towering defender put up a remarkable performance to contain Zambia’s lethal forward Barbara Banda.
Nankya believes the job is only halfway done, and says they must keep focused and make sure they replicate the performance they had at home.
“We are not getting carried away by today’s result because we know there is another game ahead of us and we therefore need to be at our best in the next game,” she stated.
The return leg is slated for Tuesday next week at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The winner on aggregate between Uganda and Zambia will face either Mauritius or Ghana at the third qualification round.
