Former LFA SG Dr. George Wah Williams Calls on Lott Carey Graduates to Lead in an AI-Paced World

Monrovia – Lead Consultant of EDDEIN Consultancy Services and Former Secretary General of the Liberian Football Association, LFA, Dr. George Wah Williams, has challenged graduates of the Lott Carey Baptist Mission School to embrace strategic vision, collaboration, adaptability, innovation and self-reliance as they prepare to navigate an increasingly technology-driven world.

Dr. Williams made the call while delivering the keynote address at the 102nd Convocation of Lott Carey Baptist Mission School, where he urged graduates to see themselves not merely as recipients of academic certificates, but as emerging leaders capable of contributing meaningfully to Liberia and the wider world.

Speaking under the theme “Portrait of a Lion Graduate in an AI-Paced Developmental Environment,” Dr. Williams said the rapid growth of artificial intelligence and changing demands of the global economy require young people to develop the ability to think critically, anticipate change and continuously acquire new skills.

He described strategic visioning as one of the defining characteristics of a “Lion Graduate,” emphasizing that graduates must learn to distinguish between information and meaningful knowledge in an environment increasingly characterized by digital distractions and information overload.

“Strategic visioning means you do not simply react to the world—you anticipate it,” Dr. Williams said, challenging graduates to consider the skills that will be relevant in the coming years and the problems in their communities, country and continent that they can help solve.

He also emphasized collaboration, drawing on the structure of a lion pride to illustrate the importance of teamwork, mentorship and shared responsibility. According to him, major advances in medicine, technology and education increasingly emerge from collaborative networks rather than isolated individual efforts.

Dr. Williams called on alumni of Lott Carey Baptist Mission School, both in Liberia and abroad, to strengthen their engagement with the institution by providing mentorship, professional networks, resources and other forms of support to younger students. He similarly urged parents and community members to view education as a shared responsibility and investment in the country’s future.

On adaptability and educational innovation, Dr. Williams urged school authorities to continuously review and improve their curriculum to ensure that students are prepared for the realities of a rapidly changing world. He cautioned against equating a greater number of courses or more information with better education.

He advocated for curricula that are more focused, relevant and practical, with greater emphasis on critical thinking, entrepreneurship, project-based learning and responsible engagement with artificial intelligence. He encouraged educators to teach students not only what to know, but also how to learn, unlearn and relearn.

The EDDEIN Lead Consultant further used the occasion to reflect on Liberia’s development trajectory, calling for greater attention to how national resources are translated into tangible improvements in the lives of citizens. He described the reported achievement of a US$1 billion revenue milestone as significant, while stressing that increased revenue should be accompanied by investments that directly benefit citizens, particularly young people.

Dr. Williams called for stronger investment in education, healthcare, vocational training, entrepreneurship and employment pathways, particularly given Liberia’s youthful population. He argued that national development efforts should place greater emphasis on sustainable opportunities and investments that enable young Liberians to become productive participants in the economy.

The former LFA Secretary General also called for continued governmental innovation, urging policymakers and public institutions to focus on measurable improvements in education, healthcare, employment and institutional performance. He said young Liberians are seeking systems that create opportunities, strengthen institutions and support sustainable development.

Turning specifically to the graduating class, Dr. Williams described the Lion Graduate as self-sustaining, courageous and committed to protecting and empowering the next generation. He encouraged graduates to use technology as a tool for advancement rather than viewing artificial intelligence solely as a threat to employment.

According to him, graduates must be prepared to create opportunities, solve problems and continuously adapt to technological and economic changes. He challenged them to demonstrate integrity, courage and a commitment to serving their families, communities and country.

In his concluding message, Dr. Williams urged the graduates to leave Lott Carey with the strategic focus of a lion, the collaborative spirit of a pride and the adaptability required to navigate new terrain.

He encouraged them to become “builders, creators, entrepreneurs and problem-solvers” who are prepared to make a difference without waiting for permission or opportunity to come to them.

“Liberia needs you. Africa needs you. The world needs you,” Dr. Williams told the graduates, encouraging them to go forth with confidence, purpose and a commitment to making a positive contribution to society.
