Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested four suspected members of an armed robbery and truck-hijacking syndicate and recovered a stolen white-coloured Sino Howo truck during an intelligence-led operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The suspects, according to the police, specialise in hijacking, diverting and stealing trucks from unsuspecting drivers within Oyo State and neighbouring states before moving the vehicles to criminal receivers in Kwara State.
In a statement made available to journalists on Sunday, the command said the breakthrough followed actionable intelligence and a tip-off from members of the public that the syndicate would be operating on August 24, 2026.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) mounted a stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
During the operation, the VCRU intercepted the white Sino Howo truck and arrested two suspects identified as Ojedokun Olakunle Isaac, the motor boy attached to the driver of the truck, and his accomplice, Ajuwon Ismail.
The police said the truck had already had its back body/bucket removed and was being driven towards the Ogbomoso/Ilorin axis for onward delivery and sale to a criminal receiver.
During interrogation, Ojedokun Olakunle Isaac allegedly confessed to masterminding the hijacking of the truck from his master along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to the command, his confession provided further leads which enabled operatives to track and arrest two other members of the syndicate, identified as Adekunle Sunday and Rasheed Music.
It further added that investigation revealed that Adekunle Sunday routinely acted as the syndicate’s designated driver whenever a truck was hijacked, helping to drive the stolen vehicle to the criminal receiver.
According to the police, Rasheed Music specialised in removing vehicle trackers and other electronic devices used for the identification and location of trucks, thereby frustrating efforts to trace or recover the stolen vehicles.
It added that further investigation showed that the syndicate operated along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on August 24, 2026, at about 11:00 p.m., where the truck was allegedly hijacked and subsequently diverted towards the Ogbomoso/Ilorin axis for onward sale.
The police further said the intelligence-led intervention disrupted the syndicate’s plan and resulted in the recovery of the vehicle.
The command also disclosed that efforts were ongoing to recover the detached back body of the truck and apprehend other members of the syndicate who are still at large.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, however, commended members of the public for providing timely and credible information which led to the success of the operation.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the sustained dismantling of criminal networks across Oyo State.
The CP urged residents to continue providing credible information that would enhance the safety and security of all residents.
