The Blantyre Water Board (BWB) has suspended its Chief Executive Officer, Yeremia Chihana, over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of power.
According to a letter seen by Malawi Voice, the board has accused Chihana of allegedly seeking funds for an institutional modernisation programme by falsely claiming that the BWB board had approved the funding.
The board has also accused Chihana of allegedly appointing an acting Director of Finance without its knowledge or approval.
Furthermore, Chihana is accused of obtaining a K500 million overdraft facility from First Capital Bank without the board’s approval.
Chihana was appointed as BWB Chief Executive Officer on 13 April 2026, with his contract expected to run until 12 April 2029.
The allegations are contained in the suspension letter and have not been independently verified.
