15 political parties condemn attack on Kaduna ADC gov’ship candidate

Leaders of 15 political parties in Kaduna State have condemned the recent attack on the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Isa Mohammed Ashiru. They described the incident as unacceptable and a direct threat to democratic participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The condemnation was detailed in a statement issued on Monday by Abdulwaheed Olayinka Adubi, spokesman for the Ashiru campaign.

According to the statement, leaders of the political parties paid a solidarity visit to Ashiru at his Kaduna residence following the attack on him and members of his entourage.

The participating parties included Accord, ADP, NRM, APP, PRP, Labour Party (LP), YPP, APGA, AA, BP, ADC, AAC, ZLP, NDP, DLA, and NNPP.

Adubi noted that the party leaders expressed grave concern during the visit over what they described as rising incidents of political intimidation and violence across the state.

He quoted the coalition as emphasizing that political disagreements must not degenerate into attacks, harassment, or threats against opponents.

The leaders stressed that political parties and candidates possess the constitutional right to organize meetings, hold rallies, engage supporters, and canvass for votes without fear of intimidation or physical violence.

They urged political actors, party supporters, and relevant authorities to promote peace, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law ahead of the 2027 polls.

The party leaders also commended Ashiru for remaining calm and steadfast in his commitment to the democratic process despite the provocation.

Responding, Ashiru thanked the visiting delegation for their solidarity and concern, assuring them that the incident would not deter him or his supporters from pursuing their political aspirations through peaceful and lawful means.

He reiterated his commitment to running an issues-based campaign centered on the development and welfare of the people of Kaduna State.

“Political competition should be about ideas, policies, and programs rather than violence and intimidation,” Ashiru stated.
