Brittany Mahomes Accuses NFL Officials of Targeting Chiefs After Controversial Penalty Costs Kansas City Victory in Denver

Brittany Mahomes has publicly criticised NFL officials after a disputed penalty played a decisive role in the Kansas City Chiefs’ 28-24 defeat to the Denver Broncos.

The wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took to social media to express her frustration after a late false-start call against Kansas City offensive lineman Jaylon Moore overturned what appeared to be a potential game-winning touchdown.

Brittany Mahomes Questions Referees Over Crucial Decision

Brittany addressed her 2.1 million social media followers shortly after the defeat, suggesting that officials had treated the Chiefs unfairly.

Reacting to the penalty on Instagram, she wrote: “You can’t tell me you call that on a game winning [touchdown]. Oh wait yeah I can cause it’s us.

That was the weakest call I have ever seen, you can’t tell me otherwise.”

Her comments attracted reactions from NFL supporters, with several fans disputing her criticism and insisting that Moore’s movement before the snap justified the officials’ decision.

One social media user questioned Kansas City’s complaints about officiating, writing: “KC blaming the refs. What alternate universe are we living in right now?”

Another supporter responded: “I mean, it was a penalty. Always has been.”

Television Replay Shows Moore’s Movement Before the Snap

The controversial decision came during Kansas City’s final offensive possession, when Moore was penalised for a false start as the Chiefs attempted to take the lead.

CBS commentators examined the incident during the broadcast, slowing down the replay and highlighting Moore’s movement before the ball was snapped.

The penalty pushed Kansas City back to the six-yard line, changing the circumstances of its final attempt to score.

Patrick Mahomes was subsequently sacked on fourth-and-goal, ending the Chiefs’ hopes of securing victory.

Andy Reid Also Questions the False-Start Penalty

Brittany was not the only member of the Chiefs organisation to express dissatisfaction with the decision.

Head coach Andy Reid also questioned the officials’ interpretation of Moore’s movement when discussing the incident during his postgame media appearance.

“I didn’t see it,” Reid said. “That’s one man’s opinion. I saw him move his head, but I didn’t see a false start.”

Despite Reid’s comments, the penalty stood, and the Broncos maintained their advantage through the final play.

Malcolm Roach recorded the decisive sack on Mahomes, securing Denver’s comeback victory and moving the team into first place in the AFC West.

Broncos Complete Comeback After Trailing by 11 Points

Denver entered the third quarter trailing 24-13 but gradually worked its way back into the contest.

Quarterback Bo Nix connected with tight end Nate Adkins for a two-yard touchdown before finding Jaylen Waddle for a successful two-point conversion.

The sequence reduced Kansas City’s advantage to 24-21.

The Chiefs then missed an opportunity to extend their lead when kicker Harrison Butker sent a 54-yard field-goal attempt wide right in the steady rain.

That attempt came one play after Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton had sacked Mahomes for a six-yard loss.

Denver needed only two plays and 35 seconds to move ahead.

Nix first connected with rookie running back Jonah Coleman for a 51-yard gain before Coleman completed the drive with a five-yard touchdown run.

The score gave the Broncos a 28-24 lead with 1 minute and 56 seconds remaining.

Chiefs Fail to Recover Lead in Final Minutes

Kansas City, which entered the game with a 5-2 record, had another opportunity to overturn the result during its final possession.

A 32-yard reception by Travis Kelce, alongside several significant runs from Kenneth Walker III, helped the Chiefs advance inside Denver’s five-yard line with less than a minute remaining.

However, Moore’s false-start penalty pushed Kansas City backwards, and the subsequent sack ended the drive without a touchdown.

The defeat left the Chiefs with a second loss of the season, while Denver improved to 6-2 following its comeback victory on home territory.
