Entry-level iPhone 18 Pro prices stay nearly flat in South Africa

South African launch prices for Apple’s entry-level iPhone 18 Pro models have changed little from last year, even though the company raised comparable prices in the United States.

The 256GB iPhone 18 Pro is listed for pre-order at R28 799, R200 more than the iPhone 17 Pro cost at launch. The iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at R31 299, unchanged from its predecessor’s September 2025 launch price.

TechCentral reported that iStore and Digicape had published similar local pre-order pricing. Apple increased the US starting prices of the Pro and Pro Max by 9.1% and 8.3% respectively.

Stronger rand cushions the increase

The rand traded near R16.04 to the dollar in early September, compared with about R17.37 when the iPhone 17 range launched. That roughly 7.7% strengthening absorbed most of the US price increase at the lower storage tiers.

The picture changes for models with more storage. The 1TB iPhone 18 Pro is priced at R43 299, up 9.6% year on year, while the 1TB Pro Max costs R45 699, an increase of 8.8%.

The 2TB Pro Max is listed at R59 999, R7 500 more than last year’s model. Apple has also introduced a 2TB option for the smaller Pro at R57 699.

The 512GB versions are slightly cheaper than the equivalent 2025 launch prices. The Pro is listed at R33 599 and the Pro Max at R35 999.

Apple did not announce a standard iPhone 18 at its September event. The company’s current premium line-up is centred on the Pro models, while South African pricing for the foldable iPhone Duo had not been published.

Both Pro models use Apple’s new A20 Pro processor. Local retailers have opened pre-orders, with final availability depending on their published release schedules and stock.
