Fannie Nkosi Resigns From SAPS Ahead of Disciplinary Hearing

South African Police Service (SAPS) official Fannie Ezekiel Nkosi has reportedly submitted his resignation, with the move coming ahead of an internal disciplinary hearing into allegations linked to his appearance at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

According to an eNCA Investigations report, Nkosi submitted his resignation letter on Friday after reportedly considering an early exit from the police service.

The report states that an internal disciplinary process was being prepared to examine allegations against Nkosi, including charges of misconduct. His resignation comes as scrutiny surrounding the allegations continues.

Nkosi was also listed among the witnesses scheduled to testify at a disciplinary hearing involving dismissed police officer Shadrack Sibiya. The circumstances surrounding Nkosi’s anticipated testimony, and whether his resignation will affect that process, were not detailed in the report.

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has been examining matters relating to alleged wrongdoing within South Africa’s law enforcement environment, bringing the conduct of several officials under public scrutiny.

Nkosi’s reported departure from SAPS raises questions about how the outstanding disciplinary matters will be handled following his resignation. The precise implications will depend on the applicable procedures and the response of the police service.

The report also noted that an enquiry had been submitted to SAPS for comment, with a response still awaited at the time of publication.

No further details were provided about the effective date of Nkosi’s resignation or whether SAPS had formally accepted the letter. The allegations and misconduct charges should also be distinguished from any findings that may have been made through a disciplinary process.

The development adds another turn to the ongoing scrutiny of police conduct connected to the Madlanga Commission. Further clarification from SAPS is expected to establish the status of Nkosi’s resignation and the next steps concerning the allegations against him.
