ONGWEDIVA- Okongo Village Council has completed 55 residential plots at Block 103 as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to housing, expand essential services and support the village’s infrastructure development.
According to the council’s local economic development and communications officer, Joyce Ueitele, the project was funded through N$5.6 million allocated by the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development for infrastructure development, including roads and housing erven.
“The 55 plots will benefit applicants currently registered on the council’s waiting list. Allocation will be conducted in accordance with established land allocation procedures and applicable policies to ensure a fair and transparent process,” she said.
Ueitele said the plots are fully serviced with essential municipal services, including water, electricity and sewerage, allowing prospective homeowners to begin developing their properties once the relevant land allocation and building approval processes have been completed.
She maintained that the council has also completed 1.4 kilometres of road construction in Extension 1 and the new reception area, following a N$1 million allocation from the Road Fund Administration (RFA).
“The road upgrades have improved accessibility and connectivity in the developing areas, particularly given Okongo’s predominantly sandy terrain, which previously made movement difficult for residents and businesses,” she said.
According to Ueitele, the improved road network has made it easier for residents to access their properties and businesses to reach their premises. It also facilitates the movement of people and goods while opening up previously difficult-to-access areas for further development and investment.
In addressing the village’s water supply challenges, the council has completed an emergency borehole project valued at N$996 000.
The borehole will operate through a hybrid solar and electricity system, aimed at strengthening water supply capacity and improving the reliability of water provision.
The council expects Block 103 to help address growing demand for residential land, create homeownership opportunities, encourage private investment and support Okongo’s spatial and economic expansion.
