Airtel Money targets $7 billion valuation in London IPO debut
The listing gives investors a price for a business processing more than $245 billion in annualised transactions.
Airtel Money has priced its London initial public offering at £1.96 ($2.59) per share, valuing the mobile money business at £5.3 billion ($7 billion) ahead of its October 14 debut, according to a regulatory filing on Thursday.
This marks the first time the market will put a public price on Airtel Africa’s fastest-growing business, after years of turning mobile money into a major part of the group’s financial story. But the $7 billion valuation is below the $8–9 billion range reported when the IPO was announced, and most of the sale proceeds will go to existing investors rather than Airtel Africa or Airtel Money.
The listing gives investors a price for a business processing more than $245 billion in annualised transactions, while giving early shareholders a route to cash out without Airtel Africa giving up its strategic position.
In September, Airtel Money was expected to raise around $800 million. Now the company expects to sell 270 million existing Airtel Money shares at £1.96 ($2.59) per share, generating £529.2 million ($698.54 million), before an additional 27 million shares that could be sold through an over-allotment option.
“Airtel Africa is not expected to sell existing Airtel Money shares in the Offer other than pursuant to the over-allotment option and is expected to remain a long-term strategic shareholder and to support Airtel Money’s next phase of development as an independently listed business,” the company said.
The company expects about 16.5% of its shares to be in public hands after the IPO, rising to about 17.5% if the over-allotment option is fully exercised. It expects the resulting free float to make it eligible for inclusion in FTSE UK indices.
For Airtel Africa, the listing creates a second publicly traded reference point for a business that has increasingly become important to the group’s economics. As of June 2026, Airtel Money had 56.5 million customers, with annualised transactions of $245 billion, and quarterly revenue of $404 million.
Airtel Money’s IPO is expected to be London’s largest since Fermi’s dual listing in September 2025, according to Reuters data from Dealogic. While the base offering is smaller than the roughly $800 million deal that had been anticipated, it is still significant for a market that has struggled to attract large new listings.
The sellers include minority investors such as TPG-backed Rise Fund II Aurora, Qatar Holding, Mastercard, and Chimetech, according to Reuters.
Airtel Money intends to trade on the main market of the London Stock Exchange, with admission expected on October 14, 2026.
