he Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, arrived in Luanda on Sunday to represent His Majesty King Mohammed VI at the Extraordinary Summit of African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government, which is taking place on August 30 in the Angolan capital.
More than a dozen African heads of state are expected in Luanda for this extraordinary AU Summit, which is dedicated to strengthening continental mechanisms for conflict prevention, management, and resolution.
The proceedings of this meeting will primarily focus on discussions regarding the strengthening of conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms in Africa, as well as the review and adoption of the decision, action plan, and implementation matrix relating to conflict prevention and resolution in Africa.
Held under the theme of strengthening and operationalizing the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) with a view to creating a “peaceful and secure Africa,” this extraordinary session is taking place in accordance with the decision of the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, held in February 2026. That decision called for a summit to be held in Luanda focused on the theme of strengthening conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms in Africa and their financing.
At the conclusion of its proceedings, the session will be marked by the adoption of a decision, as well as an action plan and its implementation matrix.
