Nairobi Well-Wisher Surprised to Find 37-Year-Old Homeless Man Living in Langata Cemetery for 4Years

Nairobi well-wisher was left stunned after discovering a 37-year-old homeless man, who had turned a grave at Lang’ata Cemetery into his sleeping place. The discovery happened while Andanje was filming at the cemetery.

He came across the man, who explained that he had been living among the graves for about four years because he had nowhere else to go.

Despite the unusual living conditions, the man said he had grown accustomed to sleeping in the cemetery and was not afraid of being surrounded by the dead.

His main concern was finding something to eat and getting through each day. He told Andanje that his survival depended largely on the kindness of people who visited the cemetery. Some occasionally gave him food, while others offered money that he could use to buy a meal.

“People come here sometimes, and they give me food or money to buy food; the family of the deceased whose grave has become my home has not chased me away so far,” he said.

The man also showed the few belongings he relied on in his daily life. Among them were a container of drinking water and a single onion, which he kept for days when he had nothing else to eat.

His situation highlighted the difficult circumstances faced by people living without shelter, especially those who depend on occasional donations to meet their basic needs. Although he sometimes went to bed hungry, the 37-year-old maintained that he still believed his situation could improve.

He said the hope of better days helped him endure the challenges of living in the cemetery. Moved by the encounter, Andanje returned to Lang’ata Cemetery the following day with food for the man.

He also made a promise that suggested he intended to help change the man’s circumstances. The return visit offered the man immediate assistance and raised hope that his difficult situation might receive further attention.

However, details of the long-term support Andanje planned to provide were not specified in the information shared. The encounter has drawn attention to the struggles of a man who has spent years without a proper home, relying on the generosity of strangers to survive.
