Two Arrested in Ntcheu Over Alleged Possession of Placenta for Witchcraft

Police in Ntcheu have arrested two men after they were allegedly found in possession of a placenta, which they reportedly intended to use in making charms.

The suspects have been identified as Nelson Kabichi, 27, and Fredson Kashaka, 39.

Ntcheu Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Constable Beatrice Mlauzi said the two were arrested on the morning of September 29, 2026, at Kaloga Trading Centre.

According to Mlauzi, the suspects had allegedly approached a traditional healer and asked him to provide them with charms that would help them steal cattle.

The two reportedly told the traditional healer that they would bring a placenta, which they intended to give him at Tsangano Turn-off so that he could prepare the charms.

The traditional healer then alerted police about the plan.

Police, together with the traditional healer, arranged to meet the two men, leading to their arrest.

When questioned, the suspects allegedly told police that Kabichi had purchased the placenta in Mozambique.

Kashaka is from Mchacha Village under Senior Chief Mlolo, while Kabichi is from Mchacha Village under Senior Chief Mbenje in Nsanje District.

Police are continuing investigations into the matter.
