The Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG) will hold an Extraordinary Congress on Monday, October 26, 2026, to deliberate on proposals by the Vice-Chancellors of Technical Universities of Ghana (VCTU-G) towards resolving the ongoing industrial action.
In a letter dated October 23, 2026, TUTAG General Secretary Dr Francis Fonyee Nutsugah said the association’s National Executive would present and discuss the proposals and position of the vice-chancellors at the congress.
The development follows an engagement between the leadership of TUTAG and VCTU-G on Thursday, October 22, as efforts intensify to resolve the strike, which began on October 1.
Dr Nutsugah expressed appreciation to the vice-chancellors for their willingness to engage the union and their commitment to finding an amicable solution to the outstanding issues.
He reaffirmed the National Executive’s commitment to constructive dialogue and collaborative efforts to reach a mutually acceptable resolution.
As part of efforts to build consensus ahead of the congress, TUTAG has urged members of VCTU-G to engage the chairpersons of their respective local chapters to seek their support for a proposed suspension of the strike.
Dr Nutsugah said the engagements with the local chapter chairpersons should take place before the congress to help secure a favourable outcome.
The association’s move comes after VCTU-G appealed to TUTAG to call off the strike, citing its impact on teaching and learning, students’ welfare and the academic calendars of technical universities.
The vice-chancellors also called on the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to facilitate an early resolution of the outstanding issues through constructive engagement.
