Safeguarding in Botswana Sport – Has the Momentum Faded?
The year 2022 stands as a turning point on safeguarding in sport in Botswana. It was a year when the issue started receiving greater attention in the country.
In that year, Sport Management Agency (SMA), under the leadership of Tsoseletso Magang and Game Mothibi, started a series of initiatives to create awareness on the issue.
Various stakeholders, including National Sporting Associations (NSAs), government representatives, security officials, medical personnel and the media were introduced to safeguarding. Workshops and awareness sessions were undertaken to sensitise them about their responsibilities in creating safe spaces to protect athletes and other participants.
