The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), has said that its 2026 workshop will focus on Nigeria’s emerging multi-layered security architecture and the 2027 polls.
The National Chairman of the PCRC, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, disclosed this at the inauguration of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) held at the Conference Hall of the Force Public Relations Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
He said that the Collective Security and Community Synergy Workshop, the second in the series, will also address violent signals ahead of the 2027 polls.
Alhaji Olaniyan, who was represented at the ceremony by the PCRC Chairman, Zone 16, Yenagoa, Archbishop Moses Omonkhuale, described the workshop, convened by the PCRC Monitoring Unit (PMU), as one of the country’s foremost community security policy dialogues.
He said the workshop was designed to provide a platform for communities to contribute meaningfully to the ongoing national conversation on Nigeria’s security challenges and the need for stronger collaboration among security institutions, government and citizens.
Representing the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Iniedu Anietie Okokon, the Admin Officer, Force Public Relations Department, SP Stephen Kuti, commended the PCRC for its sustained contributions to strengthening police-community relations and promoting closer integration between the police and the communities they serve.
“I often wonder where you get the energy to do all the things you are doing,” Kuti said, stressing the Police Force’s appreciation of the PCRC’s contributions to community policing and police-community partnership.
Giving insight into the forthcoming workshop, the National Coordinator of the PCRC Monitoring Unit, Austen Yong, said in a release that the 2026 edition would focus on Nigeria’s emerging multi-layered security architecture and the 2027 General Elections.
According to Yong, the workshop represents a significant shift in the philosophy of community engagement—from merely asking communities to support the police to recognising them as co-producers, stakeholders and owners of community security.
He explained that the emerging security environment, including strengthened community policing, State Police, regional security structures and other community-based security arrangements, makes it imperative for citizens to understand their roles and responsibilities within the evolving security architecture.
Yong said the workshop would therefore bring together key stakeholders to examine how the emerging security framework can be coordinated effectively while ensuring that communities are adequately prepared to contribute to safer and more credible elections in 2027.
Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku, General Secretary of the Academic Staff Union Research Institute and Chief of the PMU Community Crime Research and Response Bureau, was appointed Chairman of the Local Organising Committee.
In his response, Ndubuaku pledged that the committee would work diligently to deliver a workshop capable of meeting the expectations of the PCRC, the Nigeria Police Force and other stakeholders.
Other members of the LOC are Inuwa Umar, Dr Princess Joy Idam, Engr. David Dung, Ms Gloria Dandam, Onoja Sunday, Quantity Surveyor Patrick Nwaefido, Barr. Jessy Gagara and Andrew Enantiwhen, while Mrs Sosanya Adebimpe will serve as Secretary.
Yong explained that the LOC members were drawn from various clusters of the PCRC Monitoring Unit in the Federal Capital Territory to ensure broad-based participation in the planning and execution of the workshop.
The ceremony was attended by members of the PMU, the PPRO of Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who accompanied SP Kuti and other stakeholders.
The 2nd Annual Collective Security and Community Synergy Workshop is expected to deepen the national conversation on Nigeria’s evolving security architecture and strengthen the role of communities as active partners in the prevention and management of crime and insecurity.
