REUNION BOMBSHELL! Milford Star Menzi Chili Sends Strong Message Ahead of Orlando Pirates Clash
JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — 27 October 2026
Milford FC midfielder Menzi Chili has opened up about the prospect of facing his former teammate Bulelani Sigomoshe when the KwaZulu-Natal outfit takes on Orlando Pirates in the Carling Knockout Cup, making it clear that friendship will take a back seat when the two sides meet.
The highly anticipated last-16 encounter presents an emotional reunion for Chili and Sigomoshe, who shared a dressing room at Milford before the defender secured a move to the Soweto giants in September 2026.
The fixture, scheduled for Tuesday evening at Orlando Amstel Arena, promises to be a major test for Milford as they attempt to eliminate the defending champions and secure a place in the quarter-finals.
Chili has expressed pride in seeing his former teammate take the next step in his football career by joining one of South Africa’s biggest clubs.
Sigomoshe’s move to Pirates has given him an opportunity to compete at a higher level, and his involvement in the Buccaneers’ setup has made the reunion particularly interesting ahead of the knockout showdown.
Speaking about the prospect of facing the defender, Chili acknowledged the special significance of the occasion and the quality Sigomoshe brings to his new team.
“It would definitely be a special moment. Ace is one of our own, and seeing him take that next step in his career is something we’re all proud of. We know the quality he has and what he can bring to Pirates,” Chili said, as reported by Soccer Laduma.
However, the Milford midfielder was quick to emphasise that personal relationships would not influence his approach once the match begins.
“But for those 90 minutes, the friendship will have to wait. We have a job to do, and I’m sure he will be just as determined to do his,” he added.
Despite entering the contest as underdogs, Milford have reasons to believe they can challenge the defending champions.
The newly promoted KwaZulu-Natal side has enjoyed a promising start to life in the Betway Premiership and occupied fourth position with 15 points from nine matches ahead of the cup fixture.
Their recent 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows has also provided encouragement as they prepare for one of their biggest challenges of the campaign.
Milford coach Xanti Pupuma has indicated that his team has learned valuable lessons from its earlier meeting with Pirates, which ended in a 2-0 defeat in the league.
The upcoming encounter offers the Stallions an opportunity to demonstrate their improvement and prove that they can compete against established South African football powerhouses.
Pirates will enter the match with the pressure of defending their Carling Knockout crown, while Milford can approach the contest with the ambition of producing a memorable upset.
For Chili, the objective is straightforward: help his team advance, regardless of the personal connection on the opposite side.
With a quarter-final place at stake, the reunion with Sigomoshe adds another compelling storyline to a fixture that could test Milford’s resilience, discipline and ambition against one of the country’s most formidable teams.
