Institute of Strategic and Development Communication (ISDEVCOM), Nasarawa State University, Keffi has mourned veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Chief Francis Duru, describing his death as a great loss to the academic community, the creative industry and the country.

Duru, who was a doctoral student at the institute, was remembered for his contributions to filmmaking and his commitment to academic development.

In a statement dated October 23, 2026, and signed by its Ag. Director, Dr Daniel Chikada, ISDEVCOM said his death came as a rude shock to the management, scholars and students of the institute.

The institute said Duru remained an active member of its academic community until his death, pursuing his doctoral studies with the passion and discipline that characterised his career in the film industry.

It noted that beyond entertaining audiences, the late actor used his creative talents to educate and inspire through storytelling.

His decision to pursue doctoral studies, according to the institute, demonstrated his humility and commitment to lifelong learning, as well as his understanding of communication as a tool for national development and cultural advancement.

“His decision to deepen his knowledge through doctoral research showed a rare humility and an enduring hunger for learning,” the statement said.

ISDEVCOM added that Duru was a source of inspiration and encouragement to fellow scholars and students, while management and staff regarded him as a respected colleague and valued member of the institute.

It said his absence would be deeply felt in its classrooms, seminars and corridors.

The institute extended its condolences to his wife, children and other relatives, as well as his colleagues in the film industry, friends and fans.

It also prayed for God’s comfort and strength for the family to bear the loss, expressing confidence that Duru’s contributions to film, scholarship and service would endure.

“His legacy in film, scholarship, and service will live on, and ISDEVCOM will forever remember him with pride and gratitude,” the statement added.
