Celebrations after launching the Shell Advance AX7 oil
Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Vivo Energy Uganda has launched a new campaign aimed at helping motorcycle riders cut operating costs and improve engine performance as high fuel and maintenance expenses continue to affect Uganda’s boda boda sector.
The company, which distributes and markets Shell-branded fuels and lubricants in Uganda, launched the Shell Advance AX7 10W-40 “Linya Levo” campaign on August 25, targeting commercial motorcycle riders, mechanics and other motorcycle users across the country.
The synthetic-blend motorcycle engine oil is designed to offer longer service intervals, improved fuel economy and enhanced engine protection, potentially helping riders reduce the frequency and cost of motorcycle maintenance.
According to Vivo Energy, Shell Advance AX7 10W-40 can deliver up to 7,000 kilometres between oil changes, extending the routine servicing interval to about three to four weeks.
The company also says the lubricant can improve fuel economy by up to three kilometres per litre compared with ordinary mineral engine oils.
For Uganda’s commercial motorcycle riders, who depend on their motorcycles for daily income, such savings could directly affect their take-home earnings.
“At Vivo Energy, we recognise that for many Ugandans, a motorcycle is far more than a machine; it is a business, a livelihood, and a family’s primary source of income,” said Joanita Mukasa Menya, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Uganda.
“The ‘Linya Levo’ campaign represents strength, resilience, and the confidence to keep moving forward despite tough economic conditions. We engineered Shell Advance AX7 to work as hard as the people who rely on it, helping riders lower running costs, prevent costly breakdowns, and maximise their daily earnings,” she said.
Beyond fuel economy, Vivo Energy says Shell Advance AX7 provides 36% greater protection against engine wear by reducing friction between critical engine components.
The company also says the lubricant keeps engine pistons 33% cleaner and provides 29% better thermal protection at high operating temperatures.
The combination is intended to maintain engine performance, reduce wear and extend motorcycle life, particularly under Uganda’s demanding road and operating conditions.
The “Linya Levo” campaign will run nationwide and is expected to involve motorcycle riders, mechanics, garage owners and motoring enthusiasts as Vivo Energy promotes what it describes as a more proactive approach to motorcycle maintenance.
Francis Kayoki, Lubricants Sales Manager at Vivo Energy Uganda, said the campaign will also give riders an immediate incentive to participate.
“We want to reward our riders immediately while helping them protect their investments for the long term,” Kayoki said.
Under the campaign, riders who purchase a one-litre pack of Shell Advance AX7 10W-40 from a Shell station or authorised spare-parts dealer can participate by peeling back the seal, dialing 2953# and entering the unique product code.
Participants instantly stand a chance to win airtime, high-visibility jackets, keyrings and other merchandise relevant to their work.
The campaign comes as maintenance costs, fuel expenses and motorcycle downtime remain important concerns for commercial riders whose earnings depend on keeping their motorcycles operational.
Vivo Energy said promoting the use of higher-performance lubricants could help riders reduce avoidable engine problems while keeping their motorcycles on the road for longer.
The company said the initiative forms part of its broader commitment to providing energy and lubricant solutions tailored to Uganda’s transport sector.
For boda boda riders, the central proposition is straightforward: better motorcycle maintenance could mean fewer breakdowns, lower running costs and more time on the road earning an income.
