Two innocent bystanders – including a 1-year-old girl – were wounded during a broad daylight shooting in the Bronx Monday afternoon, police said.
The gunfire erupted in front of 726 Courtlandt Ave. in Melrose around 4 p.m. and struck a 32-year-old man in the ankle, according to the NYPD.
A bullet fragment also struck a parked 2023 Honda Civic, carrying a teenage girl and baby, and shattered the glass of its window, cops said.
While the 16-year-old girl was unharmed, the glass fragments hit the 1-year-old girl, causing minor injuries, authorities said.
EMS rushed to the scene, taking both victims to Lincoln Hospital, where they are in stable condition.
Neither victim is believed to have been the gunman’s intended target, sources said.
Dramatic surveillance video obtained from the scene shows the moments before the shooting, as a shadowy figure in all black is seen walking up the block with his hand in their pocket, just in front of the Honda.
The goon then pulls out a gun and appears to be shooting at someone across the street, off-camera, according to the clip.
It’s unclear if the shooter in the video shatters the Honda’s glass, but he’s seen disappearing into the wind soon after.
The video’s nail-biting final moments show a man leaving a nearby building to check on the passengers of the Honda Civic, then rushing them inside.
Neighbor Just Moore said he was walking home from grocery shopping with his 11-month-old when he stumbled upon the scene of the shooting.
“It’s stuff like this that’s the reason I don’t wear headphones when I’m out with her,” Moore said. “You always have to be aware of something that’s going on.”
The dad wasn’t surprised that a shooting took place in the Bronx, but was surprised it took place in his own neighborhood at that time of day.
“It’s a dangerous situation in a relatively quiet area in a relatively quiet time of the day,” he said.
Local David Valentin said he was watching TV when he heard between eight to ten gunshots.
“I said ‘it sounds like a gun, but it’s school time,’” he said, calling the broad daylight shooting “crazy.”
“Whatever person did that, they have to find him and get him off the streets. Because that’s dangerous,” he said.
Law enforcement sources said the teen and the infant did not know the man who was shot in the ankle.
Cops said no arrests have been made, and an investigation is ongoing.
