Orlando Pirates Face Tough CAF Champions League Test as Simba SC and RS Berkane Loom

Orlando Pirates will face RS Berkane of Morocco, Tanzania’s Simba SC and Cameroonian champions Colombe Sportive in Group C of the CAF Champions League following Wednesday’s draw.

The South African club must finish among the group’s top two teams to secure a place in the quarter-finals, with the group-stage fixtures scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.

Head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou will look to his experienced players to deliver consistent performances as the Soweto side seeks to progress to the knockout stages.

Colombe Sportive Matches Could Be Crucial

Pirates will aim to collect maximum points from their two meetings with Colombe Sportive, who have less experience at this level of continental competition than some of their group opponents.

Winning both fixtures against the Cameroonian champions would give the Buccaneers six points and strengthen their position in the race for qualification.

The results of those matches could prove important as the South African side competes with three other clubs for one of the group’s two quarter-final places.

RS Berkane Present Another Qualification Challenge

Moroccan club RS Berkane are also among Pirates’ opponents. The side reached the CAF Champions League semi-finals last season but has recently struggled for consistency in the Botola Pro 1.

Pirates will look to take advantage of any weaknesses in the Moroccan team, particularly when playing at home.

Securing four points from their two matches against Berkane would provide a useful return, while winning both encounters would give the Buccaneers an additional six points.

Simba SC Expected to Provide Strong Competition

Simba SC could present another significant challenge for Pirates, with the Tanzanian club bringing experience from previous campaigns in African football.

The two teams will compete for points that could determine which sides advance to the quarter-finals. Pirates will therefore need to make the most of their home fixtures while remaining disciplined in away matches.

Home Results Could Shape Pirates’ Campaign

Winning all three home games and collecting at least one point away from home would give Pirates a strong points return in the group stage.

However, qualification will also depend on the results of the other teams in Group C, making consistency across all six matches important.

Ouaddou’s side will need to manage the demands of the continental competition and secure results against opponents with different styles and levels of experience.

Pirates Seek Another Champions League Title

Orlando Pirates last won the CAF Champions League in 1995. Their campaign in the upcoming group stage will determine whether they can advance to the quarter-finals and continue their pursuit of another continental title.
