Several injured in alleged military brutality in Bunkpurugu

Several residents of Bunkpurugu in the North East Region have sustained injuries in alleged assaults by military personnel enforcing a curfew imposed amid a chieftaincy dispute.
The residents allege that some soldiers used the curfew as an opportunity to enter homes, assault occupants and damage property.
They say about four injured residents are currently receiving treatment at the Bunkpurugu Hospital following the alleged assaults.
Some of the victims have recounted their experiences to Channel One News, while their families are calling for an investigation and justice for those affected.
One victim alleged that military personnel entered his home around 3am, damaged the door, and assaulted residents.
“They came to our house around 3am. They have even destroyed my door. I am appealing to government to call them to order. My brother is injured, he cannot walk.
“I sustained injuries on my back and right foot. Your target should be those who are disobeying the law outside, not those of us inside our houses,” the victim said.
The residents are appealing to the government and relevant authorities to investigate the allegations and take steps to prevent further incidents during the enforcement of the curfew.
