AI summary
In a decisive move to drive affordable housing ecosystem that delivers sustainability for vulnerable households, Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL) has commissioned 50 two-bedroom detached energy-efficient homes for vulnerable households in Oyo State.
This was delivered in partnership with Post-Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL) and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), goes beyond shelter.
The move is expected to deploy a housing model where affordability meets energy efficiency, climate resilience, and long-term social sustainability while ensuring that vulnerable families can live with dignity without the burden of high energy and maintenance costs.
FHFL said the project is a practical demonstration of its mandate to strengthen Nigeria’s affordable housing ecosystem by linking finance, innovative construction technology, and livelihood support for those most in need.
Representing the Managing Director/CEO, Abdul Mutallab Mukhtar, the Executive Director, Operations, Dr. Henry Inegbu noted that sustainability is central to FHFL’s approach for vulnerable households:
Inegbu said this initiative is about providing the wives of our fallen heroes with the security and stability that comes with having a home of their own. Their husbands gave their lives in service to Nigeria, and we have a responsibility to ensure that the families they left behind receive meaningful support.
Beyond the homes we are delivering today, we are committed to supporting the widows with skills development and livelihood opportunities that can strengthen their capacity for self-sustainability.”
He added that the partnership-driven model ensures lasting impact:
“For these families, the homes provide a stable and dignified environment in which they can build their future, while honouring the sacrifice of the men who served our country. We remain committed to working with credible partners to deliver housing solutions that create lasting value for beneficiaries and communities.”
The units, built with energy-efficient design principles, will reduce household energy consumption and cost of living — a critical factor for the long-term sustainability of low-income and vulnerable households.
The estate was formally commissioned on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, by the General Officer Commanding, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda.
Major General Mahmuda reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to welfare partnerships that secure the future of families of fallen personnel:
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to supporting initiatives that provide housing and other forms of assistance to the families of our fallen heroes, in recognition of their patriotic service and sacrifice to the nation.”
The commissioning ceremony featured the presentation of keys to 50 beneficiaries — a moment of joy and renewed hope for families who have borne the ultimate sacrifice.
Through interventions like this, FHFL continues to expand Nigeria’s affordable housing ecosystem — one that is inclusive, sustainable, and deliberately focused on protecting vulnerable households while closing the nation’s housing deficit.
