Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Dan Osi Orbih.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mrs Eunice Omonzejie, and made available to journalists by the institution’s Principal Assistant Registrar and Head of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Otunba Mike Aladenika, the university described Orbih’s death as a major loss to the institution, Edo State and Nigeria.
The university management, Governing Council, Senate, staff and students said they received the news of the death of the prominent statesman and political leader with profound shock and sadness.
According to the statement, Chief Orbih brought extensive experience, courage, wisdom and a strong sense of responsibility to his role as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.
His tenure was characterised by a strong commitment to repositioning the institution, restoring its reputation and strengthening its capacity to provide quality education and contribute meaningfully to societal development.
The university noted that Orbih was particularly passionate about good governance, academic excellence, institutional stability and sustainable development.
It added that he consistently championed initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of the university community and restoring the institution’s dignity and reputation.
“His contributions to the growth and transformation of Ambrose Alli University will remain indelible in the history of the institution,” the statement said.
Beyond his role at AAU, the university described Orbih as a respected political leader and statesman who dedicated several decades to public service.
His contributions to the political and socio-economic development of Edo State and the wider South-South region, it said, earned him recognition across Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the university community, extended heartfelt condolences to Orbih’s wife, children, siblings and the entire Orbih family, assuring them of the institution’s solidarity during the difficult period of mourning.
The university prayed that Almighty God would grant the family the strength and fortitude to bear the loss and grant the deceased eternal rest.
AAU said Chief Dan Osi Orbih would be greatly missed, stressing that his legacy of courage, service and commitment to the advancement of the institution would continue to inspire generations to come.
