The South Sudan National Olympic Committee (SSNOC) has met with leaders of the country’s football and basketball federations to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation and improve sports development.
The meeting, held at the committee’s headquarters in Juba, brought together SSNOC President Choul Laam, Secretary General Chol Anei, South Sudan Basketball Federation President Luol Deng and South Sudan Football Federation President Francis Amin Michael.
The discussions focused on strengthening national sports federations, improving cooperation between sports institutions and creating more opportunities for athletes across the country.
Leaders discuss sports development
During the meeting, the officials explored ways to improve coordination between the Olympic Committee and national federations to support the growth of different sports.
They also discussed plans to strengthen sports administration and improve opportunities for young athletes.
The SSNOC leadership took Deng and Amin on a tour of its headquarters, where they presented ongoing initiatives aimed at supporting national federations and developing athletes.
The meeting did not announce any new funding agreements, specific projects or timelines for implementing the proposals.
Olympic Committee seeks stronger cooperation
The discussions come months after the SSNOC elected a new executive board in June 2026, with Choul Laam as president and Chol Anei as secretary general.
The committee is responsible for representing South Sudan in the Olympic movement and supporting the development of sports federations.
South Sudan has gained international recognition through basketball, with its men’s national team making its Olympic debut at the Paris 2024 Games.
The latest meeting forms part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the country’s sports governing bodies and expand opportunities for athletes.
