HARARE (Xinhua) — Zimbabwe recorded faster export growth in August, pushing its monthly trade surplus to 526.5 million U.S. dollars from 320 million dollars in July, official data showed Monday.
According to the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT), exports rose markedly to 1.68 billion dollars in August from 1.47 billion dollars in July, while imports increased marginally to 1.152 billion dollars from 1.150 billion dollars.
Semi-manufactured gold contributed the largest share of total exports at 44 percent, while mineral fuels and mineral oils accounted for the largest share of imports at 22.2 percent.
The United Arab Emirates was the primary destination for Zimbabwean exports in August, accounting for 44.6 percent of the total, followed by China at 32.2 percent and South Africa at 13 percent.
Together, the three countries accounted for nearly 90 percent of total exports, ZIMSTAT said.
Major source countries for imports were South Africa, China, Bahrain, and Mozambique, which collectively accounted for 65 percent of total imports.
