Chido Obi must be furious with Man Utd after what’s happened to him again on loan

Chido Obi joined Man Utd as one of the brightest youth talents in the country, but what’s just happened to him at his first loan spell is unforgivable.
Having made his debut in the 2024/25 season and then taking a step back to improve his all-round game in the season after, the first loan spell of Chido Obi’s career arrived.
He was sent to Willem II in the Dutch league, famous for its strikers feasting on attacking football and scoring lots of goals.
However, after what’s just happened to him again at Willem II, Obi must be furious with Man Utd.
Chido Obi set up to fail with another cameo
Obi was sent to a Willem II side that had just been promoted this season, so the hope was that he would get plenty of game time in a weaker side.
This was very much the Harry Amass template at Sheffield Wednesday, where the left-back benefitted from playing for a struggling side and emerging as their talisman.
However, six games into his Willem II spell, he has played a grand total of 48 minutes, with the latest being an eight-minute cameo off the bench.
In his last three games, he has played eight, three, and eight minutes respectively, which is, ironically, the kind of minutes he could have got at Old Trafford as well this season.
With Benjamin Sesko’s injury, Obi could have been on the bench regularly, and seeing how poor their attacking play has been, you would fancy Michael Carrick throwing him on just to increase attacking numbers late on in games.
Instead, he’s being set up to fail with these paltry cameos for a side that rarely creates chances on their best days and is being asked to make a difference.
He picked up a booking in their latest game as he tries his hardest to make a difference despite being set up to fail, and Man Utd are to blame.
What were the discussions with Willem II when the loan was sanctioned? What was the project sold to Obi? Have the promises been broken? Did United even do their due diligence in agreeing to this move?
There are so many questions that should absolutely make Obi furious with the club. One of the brightest talents in the English youth circuit is struggling for minutes at a relegation-doomed Dutch side, and there’s no defending the decision-making behind that move.
