MP Otiende Amollo Breaks Silence on Live Streaming of Presidential Results as Debate Intensifies

Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has broken his silence on the contentious debate surrounding proposed changes to Kenya’s election laws, delivering a powerful message amid growing political and legal scrutiny over the transmission of presidential election results.

Amollo, an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and Senior Counsel, has firmly maintained that live streaming of election results must remain an integral component of the country’s electoral framework. His position carries considerable legal and political weight, given his membership in the National Assembly’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.

The outspoken legislator has also invoked his personal experience during the 2017 presidential election petition, where he benefited from the live-streaming of results while actively participating in proceedings that culminated in the nullification of the presidential election results.

In a forceful defence of electoral transparency, Amollo has maintained that attempts to eliminate live streaming have been rejected and that the existing legal position remains unchanged.

His intervention comes at a politically sensitive moment when proposed amendments to election laws have triggered intense debate over accountability, transparency and the credibility of the electoral process ahead of the 2027 General Election.

With questions surrounding the transmission and verification of presidential results continuing to dominate political discourse, Amollo’s position reinforces the importance of maintaining transparency in the management of Kenya’s elections.
