The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State chapter, has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently address the rising cost of living in the country.
Speaking during an interdenominational service to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary, CAN Chairman and Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Yohanna, urged the President to stabilize the economy and ease the hardship faced by citizens.
“I call on President Bola Tinubu to make frantic efforts to do all he can to stabilise the economy and ensure the security of lives and properties, especially in areas affected by insecurity,” Yohanna said.
He emphasized the need for a drastic reduction in fuel and food prices, a decline in inflation, a stronger naira, and growth in external reserves.
According to him, Nigeria’s resilience through decades of trials is proof that “Nigeria shall rise again.”
The cleric also cautioned against turning Christian gatherings into political campaign platforms, stressing that religious leaders must promote peace and encourage responsible participation in elections.
“Our prayer is simple but profound: There shall be a new Nigeria. A great nation shall be born,” he declared, adding that diversity should be seen as a strength rather than a source of division.
Representing Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago at the service, Permanent Secretary Jonathan Wasa urged residents to sustain prayers for the nation and its leaders, expressing hope for a more prosperous Nigeria.
