Planned Long Blackout Today, Check If You Will Be Affected
Residents and business owners in parts of Nyeri and Kiambu counties should prepare for temporary electricity interruptions on Saturday, October 24, following a planned maintenance announcement by the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).
The scheduled exercise will affect several villages, markets, learning institutions, coffee factories, farms and residential estates. According to the company’s notice, some locations will experience power cuts from 8am, while others will remain without electricity from 9am until 5pm.
Customers in the affected areas have been advised to make arrangements ahead of the interruptions, particularly those who depend on electricity for business operations and other daily activities.
Nyeri County: Areas to Experience Power Cuts
In Nyeri County, the first scheduled interruption will affect Thamaru and Ngunguru, where electricity supply is expected to be unavailable between 8am and 5pm.
The affected locations include Kahara Village, Karogoto Market, Kahiga Village, Thamaru Village, Ngunguru Secondary School, Kiambachi Village, Ngurumo Dispensary, Ngunguru Coffee Factory, Maingirano Village and Gatiki Village.
Safaricom and Airtel booster installations, together with neighbouring customers, are also included in the notice.
Another interruption is scheduled for Kangubiri Girls High School and surrounding areas from 9am to 5pm. The affected locations include Kanderendu Village and adjacent customers.
Meanwhile, customers supplied through the Kagumo TTC and Mutathini areas will also experience an outage from 9am to 5pm.
These areas include Kagumo Teachers Training College, Kiambuiri, North Tetu Coffee Factory, G.N. Rukahu, Mutathini Market, Lilongwe, Mutathini booster, parts of Munyororo Village and Kiriti Village, alongside neighbouring customers.
Kiambu County: Markets and Estates on the List
In Kiambu County, electricity interruptions are scheduled for parts of Kirigiti, Riabai, Tinganga and Ndumberi between 9am and 5pm.
The affected locations include Kirigiti Market, Riabai Market, parts of Ndumberi, Sasini, Tinganga Market, Ngaita, Gichocho, Nyautto and St. Ann Liuki.
Other areas listed by Kenya Power include Muhugu Farm, Mworoto, Anmer Primary School, Zaria Estate, Dewridge Estate, Kenflora Growers, Nyala Farmhouse and adjacent customers.
Residents and businesses in these locations should plan for the temporary disruption, especially if they require electricity for refrigeration, electronic payments, communication equipment or other essential services.
The interruptions are part of planned maintenance intended to facilitate work on the electricity network. However, the scheduled times indicate when customers should expect the supply disruption rather than guaranteeing that every location will experience identical conditions.
Customers in the listed areas are encouraged to charge their phones, prepare alternative lighting and make any necessary business arrangements before the scheduled outages begin.
Those living outside the named locations should check Kenya Power’s official notices for any additional updates affecting their areas.
