Chivayo funeral wake moves to Chishawasha Hills as family races to secure designer clothes, jewellery and cars

Funeral proceedings for the late businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke, are set to move from Greystone Park to his Chishawasha Hills mansion after his sisters arrived from the United Kingdom last night to secure the property.

Mourners had gathered at the Greystone Park residence, his late mother’s house in Harare, for the wake and funeral service.

A family member told The NewsHawks that the family had been waiting for the sisters to arrive before shifting the wake to his own home in Gletwyn, also known as Chishawasha Hills.

“The funeral proceedings will move today from the Greystone Park residence, which was his late mother’s house, to his own home in Chishawasha or Gletwyn,” the family member said.

“We were waiting for the sisters to arrive from the UK to first secure the property and his valuables, including cars, money, precious goods, jewellery, designer clothes and shoes, among many other things that people can be tempted to tamper with or steal.

“The sisters arrived last night, and we will shift to his home for the funeral services until burial.”

The Chishawasha mansion was reportedly secured immediately after his death on Wednesday to prevent theft of his and his wife’s valuables.

Chivayo owned a mansion in the exclusive Chishawasha Hills suburb valued at US$7 million, which he said he bought from former police commissioner Augustine Chihuri.

The controversial tycoon also owned several other multi-million-dollar properties in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Eswatini and other countries.

Chivayo died on Wednesday afternoon with his wife, her personal assistant and two pilots when their helicopter crashed near Marondera.

They were travelling from his rural home in Gandami, Chikomba, Mashonaland East, where he was building a mansion at his family farm.
